BOOK SEASON

The cool air, although welcomed, is also the sign of something different in my home.  And that is….BOOK SEASON.  I love summer reading of course!  There are few things better than cracking a spine of a fantastic book among a sandy landscape.  However, snuggling up with a warm beverage and a soft blanket is something I look forward to all year!

I am going to attempt to post a new book review every week this month to help kick of BOOK SEASON! There will be a mix as these days I seem to be quite indecisive about genres. I go from post WWII stories to rom-coms to deep dramas in the blink of an eye. So, dive in to these with the knowledge that I am super tangential and not afraid of that fact!

LET’S GET TO IT

First book pick: Looking For Alaska

Author: John Green

Why I loved it: Well first, John Green.  Let me just get that out there.  I haven’t read one of his novels I didn’t love and this one is no exception.  I surmise this is classified as a YA book (never bothered me that I am way out of that age range) and also hugely dramatic.  Reader beware….this is a teenage story that includes many teenage situations including…well kind of anything you can think of. I remember reading that it got banned in some areas which just boggles my little brain.  WHY??? I will never understand this act.

This novel is beautifully written and breaches many issues young adults are dealing with. The author injects humor, uncertainty, joy, sorrow, and sensitivity into a coming-of-age story that will have you racing into your reading nook to see what is going to happen next. A teenager goes to boarding school, and while struggling to fit in, discovers himself and some other very important life lessons. It’s the perfect beginning to fall read and the perfect book to kick start BOOK SEASON.
