JULY BOOK PICK
As you all know, I am part of a beloved book club. We attempt to read a book a month, but sometimes life gets in the way. But I always find that “skipping” my reading time is a bad idea. It’s a hobby of mine that is really part of my self-care regimen. So this month we got back on track and picked one of my all-time favorites : The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney.
The Nest is the perfect summer read. But beware- you’re not going to want to put this one down. I really do marvel at authors and how they can transport the readers to a different realm. In this story, the author expertly executes this task- and does so quite elegantly. The story takes place in NYC (in varied locales) and coincidentally my book club partner hails from the Big Apple. So, clearly I have an in right?? Anyways, he states that the book is super accurate and also gives NYC that nostalgic feel. I describe it the same way.
It is not just the imagery that makes the story come alive. It’s the delicate weaving of the multi-faceted characters that sucks you in and takes you on an adventure that you won’t want to quit. At the end of a book, the club always asks “what was your favorite character” and the conversation takes off from there. Quite honestly, I couldn’t answer that question this time around as all the characters had pieces and parts that I very much adored.
