Now more than ever, I think it’s time for some love.  Shall we agree? I thought so.  As I have grown older, I have come to appreciate and even crave the sense of community. Re-connections, check-ins and capitalizing on each other’s strengths is definitely a sweet part of an often bitter world.

The Origin

Long ago (let’s not say exactly how “long”) I too conquered high school among the varying cliques and social groups.  I considered myself a floater. A friend of many and hopefully an enemy to none. I had a few close, close companions (an attribute I still hold in high regard to this day) but numerous pleasant acquaintances. These days, some of those friendships have evolved into deeper connections and yes even fellow site/blog/business relationships. And honestly, what can be better than that?

When I started this blog, I received so much support.  My high school version of myself squealed with delight at the reinforcements I was getting.  One such amazing support came from a dear friend that I have revisited from my teenage years.

She runs a wonderful page called Hooking for the Homeless and its message and vision are beyond what true humanity should be (never mind the clever pun!).  It’s a page that represents knitting, crocheting, anything yarn really…and it strives to provide donations of these items to those in need.  Hooking for the Homeless also is a community builder that promotes crafting, teaching and togetherness in a fun and meaningful way.

I can only hope I have described it in a somewhat okay fashion but please, please go visit the page for my friends own words and mission.  Here is the direct link for this great page (I have also embedded the link in the name but I know some people like to see the real thing!)  http://www.hookingforthehomeless.com/

My New Hat and Community

A few months ago, I was truly touched by a Hooking for the Homeless volunteer.  The site’s owner (and yup that’s my friend folks) had posted one of her many beautiful patterns and photos.  It was of a hat that had a bow on the top and I really was drawn to it.  Now, I can pretty much only crochet with the largest needle possible, so I’m not sure I could pull this off (note: there are beginner to advanced patterns that she shares so you can “hook” for donations and even for yourself) but I commented on the pic nonetheless.  Well, don’t you know one of the kind people made one for me? Yup, that’s the hat in my photo.  I mean, come on! In my favorite color!  This person doesn’t know me from Jane but took the time and effort to make something beautiful and fun for me.  That is a community I wish to be a part of people! I have gathered some of my unused yarn and plan to donate it to this great charity site and spread the love.  I hope you do too!
